ENCRYPTION INFO
And here is an excellent interface for it: WinFront version 3.1.
PGP is a DOS program. WinFront is a Windows shell that makes PGP very easy to use.
There is a purely Windows version of PGP, but it is not as flexible for personal file encryption use as the older version. In making it a Windows only application, Phil Zimmerman (who has now formed a company) has apparently removed the plain, symmetric, IDEA encryption option. IDEA is a very strong (128-bit key) encryption system. This newest PGP (version 5), uses only Public-Private encryption. The previous version of PGP (2.6.3) also uses Public-Private encryption, but it also has symmetric (IDEA) encryption available for encrypting oridnary files that you do not intend to send by email. Apparently, the IDEA only option is not available in the new PGP version 5. The IDEA option is best if you just want to encrypt files on your own computer. PGP Version 5 is very good, however, for encrypting email using the Public-Private encryption system. For that reason I use both, the older version 2.6.3 and the newer version 5.
You can get PGP version 5 here. Since this program is over 3.5 Megs in size, I cannot keep it here on this site, and have instead, provided a link to a download site.
To make the best use of the programs, remember to read the documentation on each one!!! Especially PGP.
